Agartala 18.06.2026 : Expressing deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation, skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, and growing unemployment in the state, the political outfit Amra Bangali submitted a 5-point memorandum to the District Magistrate (DM) of West Tripura today.
A delegation from the Amra Bangali Tripura State Committee met with the West Tripura DM to hand over the charter of demands, urging immediate government intervention to protect public interest.
Escalating Crimes Against Women Spark Outrage
The leadership of Amra Bangali highlighted a alarming rise in crimes against women across Tripura, stating that the citizens are living in constant anxiety.
The delegation specifically pointed out two recent shocking incidents:
- June 10: The mysterious death of a young woman named Manisha Das inside the hostel of Santiniketan Medical College.
- June 12: The brutal gang-rape of a Class 9 female student in the Atarbhola Darkathang area under the Udaipur subdivision.
Amra Bangali slammed the state police administration for labeling Manisha Das’s death as a suicide without a proper investigation. They alleged that due to political backing and influence, perpetrators in many historic and recent crimes have evaded the law, while economically weak and politically unaligned victims are consistently denied justice.
“The Home Department’s lack of effective action has deeply disappointed the people of Tripura. From the June 80 massacre to modern-day crimes, there is a historical pattern where criminals end up getting rewarded instead of punished due to political color,” a party representative stated.
Economic Distress: Price Hikes and Unemployment
Apart from safety concerns, the party raised its voice against the “unbearable” financial pressure on the common man. The prices of daily essentials—including petrol, diesel, cooking gas (LPG), life-saving medicines, edible oils, pulses, and sugar—have soared abnormally.
Simultaneously, rising unemployment and a massive influx of illegal drugs and narcotics are pushing the state’s youth into a dark corner, crippling the overall law and order framework.
The 5-Point Charter of Demands
To tackle the ongoing crisis, the Amra Bangali state committee has placed the following major demands before the West Tripura District Magistrate:
- Judicial Inquiry into Manisha Das’s Death: Immediate formation of a Judicial Inquiry Commission led by a sitting High Court Judge to uncover the truth behind the mysterious death of Manisha Das at Santiniketan Medical College and ensure exemplary punishment for the culprits.
- Special Task Force for Women’s Safety: Amendment of laws to set up a Special Task Force (STF) for fast-tracking trials of crimes against women, ensuring culprits are punished swiftly regardless of their political affiliation.
- Total Ban on Narcotics: Strict prohibition on the production, marketing, and sale of all kinds of drugs and intoxicating substances across the state.
- Curb Price Hike & Black Marketing: Strict action against black marketing and immediate measures to control the surging prices of petrol, diesel, LPG, life-saving medicines, and essential groceries.
- Industrialization and Employment: Establishment of block-level industries across Tripura to ensure 100% employment opportunities for local youths. Additionally, the party demanded the immediate withdrawal of the steeply hiked property taxes levied on vacant lands within the extended municipal corporation areas.
The delegation warned that if the administration fails to take concrete steps to curb inflation, eradicate the drug menace, and restore women’s safety, they will be forced to launch a wider democratic movement across the state.
