Agartala: With the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections just a few months away, intense public resentment has erupted against the ruling BJP corporator of Ward No. 10 under the 6-Agartala Assembly constituency. Local residents have accused Corporator Soma Majumder of completely failing to construct or repair a crucial community road during her five-year tenure.
The allegations have emerged from the Chandrapur Jamtala Madhya Para area, where commuters and families claim they are living in absolute distress due to the dilapidated state of the road.
Residents Allege Misbehaviour and Inaction
According to the aggrieved residents of Chandrapur Jamtala Madhya Para, the road has been in a miserable condition for years, severely disrupting daily life, emergency medical access, and school commutes. Locals stated that they approached Corporator Soma Majumder multiple times with written and verbal requests to fix the stretch before the upcoming civic polls.
However, instead of addressing their civic grievances, the corporator allegedly misbehaved with the delegation and gave erratic, evasive responses (“ultapalta kotha”).
“We have repeatedly pleaded for a proper road, but our ward corporator treats our problems with utter indifference. When we ask for accountability, she responds with bizarre excuses rather than solutions,” an angry local resident told reporters.
Failure of the ‘Double-Engine’ Government?
The worsening civic conditions ahead of the municipal elections have prompted voters to question the administrative efficiency of the ruling establishment. Angry residents are openly asking whether the much-voted ‘double-engine’ BJP government is genuinely so incompetent that it cannot build or renovate a basic neighborhood road in five full years.
As political campaigns begin to pick up pace across Agartala, the poor infrastructure in Ward No. 10 is fast snowballing into a major electoral issue, threatening to derail the ruling party’s prospects in the Chandrapur belt if immediate corrective measures are not taken.
