AGARTALA | June 17, 2026: In a coordinated effort to address critical social and behavioral challenges affecting the youth, a comprehensive two-day state-level workshop commenced today at the Pragya Bhavan auditorium in Agartala.
The interactive workshop focuses heavily on four interconnected core themes: youth mental health management, adolescent healthcare, substance abuse prevention, and the eradication of child marriage.
Inclusive Platform Brings Educators and LGBTQIA+ Advocates Together
The inaugural session of the multi-sectoral workshop was chaired by the District Magistrate (DM) and Collector of West Tripura, Dr. Vishal Kumar.
In a significant step toward inclusive social policy planning, the seminar brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including school headmasters and principals from various government and private institutions across the district, adolescent healthcare experts, and active representatives from the LGBTQIA+ community.
The inclusion of LGBTQIA+ voices was highly appreciated by attendees, as it aimed to sensitize institutional heads about creating inclusive, bullying-free environments for marginalized students in academic spaces.
”Our youth are facing complex psychological and social pressures today, ranging from digital addiction and substance abuse to identity crises. School headmasters act as the first line of defense in identifying early behavioral changes. By bringing educators, health experts, and LGBTQIA+ representatives onto a single platform, we want to build a sensitive and robust support ecosystem in every school across West Tripura,” West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar stated during his inaugural keynote address.
Technical Sessions Target Grassroots Awareness Roadmap
Over the two-day itinerary, specialized panels led by clinical psychologists and child protection officers will train the participating educators on specific intervention protocols:
- Substance Abuse Prevention: Developing early detection mechanism toolkits within school campuses to counter the growing menace of drug abuse among teenagers.
- Child Marriage Legalities: Empowering school management committees to leverage statutory legal frameworks and report suspected cases of child marriage immediately to local authorities.
- Adolescent Health Support: Outlining routine counseling and health check-up structures to address hormonal and mental health transitions among high school students safely.
The West Tripura district administration concluded the opening day by distributing information booklets and helpline directories to all school heads, urging them to establish dedicated counseling cells within their respective institutions immediately.
