AGARTALA | June 9, 2026: Alarm over the spreading tentacles of drug abuse in the capital city sparked an intense protest on Tuesday as the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) took to the gates of the law enforcement authorities. The East Agartala Regional Committee of AIDWA submitted a formal deputation to the Officer-in-Charge of the East Agartala Women’s Police Station, demanding immediate and severe punitive action against local drug peddlers.
The delegation, comprising a large group of women activists and anxious mothers from the locality, expressed severe concern over the vulnerability of neighborhood children and youth who are increasingly falling prey to highly addictive illicit substances.
Banamalipur Emerging As A Hub For Substance Abuse
The agitating women’s body highlighted that certain pockets within the Banamalipur constituency have rapidly devolved into a breeding ground for toxic substance smuggling and consumption. They alleged that despite multiple warnings, anti-social elements continue to operate with near impunity, destroying families and turning the neighborhood unsafe for women and children.
”Our main objective is to completely isolate the youth of Banamalipur from the grip of fatal narcotic substances before it destroys their future. The local drug distribution networks are expanding in broad daylight. We have urged the police administration to act decisively, run regular night patrols, and round up the ultimate kingpins behind this racket,” a leading AIDWA representative stated after presenting the memorandum.
Call For Increased Vigilance and Night Patrols
The memorandum submitted by the Left-leaning women’s organization detailed the specific hot-zones where substance transactions happen regularly under the cover of darkness. They pointed out that the rise in substance abuse has naturally triggered a parallel spike in local rowdyism, theft, and domestic harassment cases.
The East Agartala Women’s Police Station authorities accepted the deputation and assured the delegation that targeted anti-narcotics drives would be organized shortly. The officials also stated that security checks and interactive policing would be prioritized in the mentioned wards to clean up the neighborhood. AIDWA leaders concluded by cautioning that if the police fail to neutralize the local drug hubs within a reasonable time frame, the mothers and sisters of the area will launch aggressive, round-the-clock neighborhood surveillance movements to flush out the criminals themselves.
