AGARTALA | June 9, 2026: A high-level delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Mazdoor Sangh (BJMS) on Tuesday submitted a formal deputation containing a multi-point charter of demands to the State Labor Commissioner at the Office Lane headquarters in Agartala.
The labor wing mobilized its members to draw immediate administrative attention toward the escalating challenges, wage disparities, and lack of social security benefits faced by the working class across various sectors in the state.
Focus on Welfare and Institutional Safeguards
During the submission of the memorandum, the BJMS leadership held a detailed discussion with the Labor Commissioner, emphasizing the need for stricter implementation of labor laws. The organization highlighted that a vast section of unorganized and casual laborers in Tripura are still being deprived of their statutory financial rights.
”Our fight is to ensure that every single laborer in Tripura receives fair wages, adequate healthcare, and safe working conditions. We have urged the Labor Commissioner to intervene immediately and regularize compliance mechanisms so that employers cannot exploit the workforce,” a senior BJMS representative stated after emerging from the meeting.
Key Demands Highlighted in the Deputation
The BJMS delegation placed a comprehensive list of demands aimed at restructuring the welfare framework for both organized and unorganized laborers in the state.
| Core Demands Placed to Labor Commissioner | Objective & Expected Outcome |
|---|---|
| Enforcement of Minimum Wages | To ensure all private and contractual laborers receive legally mandated baseline pay. |
| Social Security Extension | Implementation of robust provident fund (PF) and ESI medical benefits for daily wagers. |
| Workplace Safety Audits | Mandatory safety protocols and compensation structures for hazardous industrial units. |
| Streamlining Welfare Boards | Speedy clearance of pending financial assistance and scholarships for laborers’ families. |
The Labor Commissioner reportedly assured the BJMS delegation that the department would look into the grievances with high priority and take necessary administrative steps to address the compliance issues raised. The trade union leaders added that they will closely monitor the department’s progress and continue their structural advocacy for workers’ welfare.
