Five Border Security Force (BSF) personnel sustained injuries and a vehicle was damaged in an attack by suspected cattle smugglers near the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Sepahijala district. The incident occurred on Friday evening along the Bishalgarh–Kamthana Road when BSF personnel stationed at the Kamthana border outpost attempted to stop a vehicle. However, the vehicle reportedly sped away towards a nearby cattle market.
Bishalgarh Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Bikash Das, stated that the BSF team followed the vehicle to the market, where a heated argument ensued between the security personnel and the alleged smugglers. The confrontation quickly turned violent, resulting in five BSF personnel sustaining injuries. The attackers also vandalised the BSF vehicle before fleeing the scene.
A formal complaint has been lodged with the police, who are currently working to identify and apprehend the assailants responsible for the assault. A video of the incident has circulated widely on social media, capturing a senior BSF officer expressing frustration over the lack of intervention from onlookers during the attack.
The incident has sparked outrage within security circles, underscoring the increasing threat posed by organised cattle-smuggling networks operating along the sensitive India-Bangladesh border in Tripura. Authorities are working diligently to address the issue and ensure the safety of border security personnel in the region.
