Tripura has seen a significant increase in rice production this year, with Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath expressing optimism that Khowai and Dhalai districts are on course to achieve self-sufficiency in food grain cultivation.
During a visit to Lankamura in West District, Minister Nath inspected paddy fields and participated in harvesting alongside local farmers. He highlighted the positive rice yield across the state this season, noting the success of farmer Bisnupada Adhikari in cultivating six different varieties of rice on five kani of land.
“We are pleased with the progress and are hopeful that Khowai and Dhalai will also reach self-sufficiency this year if weather conditions remain favorable,” Minister Nath stated. He also mentioned that three districts and 30 blocks in Tripura are already self-sufficient in food grain production.
To further support farmers, the government plans to provide harvesting machines to boost efficiency in agricultural practices. Minister Nath emphasized the importance of standing by farmers, stating that agriculture is the main foundation of the state’s economy.
Officials attribute the improved yield to better farming techniques, timely support, and increasing enthusiasm among cultivators across Tripura. With a focus on boosting agricultural productivity, the state is poised to continue its upward trend in food grain cultivation.
