AGARTALA | SEPTEMBER 4, 2026: In a significant push toward urban rejuvenation and environmental conservation, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder laid the foundation stone and performed the Bhoomi Pujan for a major waterbody development project at Durga Chowmuhani (Ramthakur Lane) in Ward No. 18.
The restoration project, located directly behind the New Star Club premises, forms part of AMC’s ongoing city-wide initiative to preserve natural urban wetlands, mitigate local waterlogging, and create eco-friendly public spaces.
Key Highlights of the Beautification Drive
- Urban Environmental Upgrades: The project includes deep dredging, bank stabilization, protective boundary fencing, peripheral walking tracks, and landscaping surrounding the waterbody.
- Civic Relief & Ground Recharge: Restoring the pond will improve rainwater retention capacity in Ward No. 18 during heavy monsoon spells while replenishing the local groundwater table.
- Community Benefits: The transformed waterbody complex will provide a clean, aesthetically pleasing environment for local residents and create a dedicated space for community recreation.
