AGARTALA | June 24, 2026: In a major relief for commuters and logistics operators, the flash indefinite blockade called along the strategic Assam-Agartala National Highway (NH-8) and vital railway tracks was abruptly withdrawn within just one hour of its commencement today.
The disruption was jointly organized by two prominent surrendered militant collectives—the Joint Action Rehabilitation Committee (JARC) and the Joint Action Committee (JAC). The rapid resolution came after high-level state administrative authorities stepped in with concrete assurances to look into their pending rehabilitation grievances.
Swift Administrative Intervention Clears High-Stakes Blockade
The sudden blockade had initially threatened to paralyze the state’s primary supply lifeline, causing immediate vehicular backlogs near the Baramura (Hathai Kotor) hill ranges. However, recognizing the gravity of a prolonged suspension of essential commodities and passenger transit, senior administrative and police officials rushed to negotiate with the agitating leadership.
Following a brief but intense dialogue, the joint committee leaders announced the immediate withdrawal of the stir, citing formal official assurances that their core socio-economic demands would be fast-tracked through structured ministerial channels.
”Our intention is not to cause indefinite suffering to the general public, but to draw urgent attention to our long-pending rehabilitation packages, housing allocations, and livelihood alternative payouts. Given the explicit written and verbal assurances received from the state administration within the hour, we have decided to fully lift the blockade. We trust the government will honor its timeline to resolve our grievances,” a spokesperson representing the joint committees stated to the media.
Normalcy Restored Along Baramura National Highway and Railway Lines
With the formal withdrawal of the agitation, security forces quickly cleared the temporary barricades, allowing traffic to resume its normal flow:
- Supply Chain Resumption: Heavy goods vehicles, fuel tankers, and essential commodity trucks stranded along the highway were given immediate priority clearance.
- Railway Operations On-Track: Station masters and railway security panels confirmed that track inspections were completed swiftly, allowing passenger and freight trains to run on schedule without further delays.
- Security Vigilance Maintained: As a standard precautionary measure, extra patrol units of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) have been temporarily stationed at vulnerable pockets of the Baramura eco-corridor to ensure continuous, uninterrupted vehicular movement.
