AGARTALA: Responding to the shocking allegations of sexual exploitation involving a teacher from a prestigious private school in the capital, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) Tripura State Committee placed a representative deputation before the Director of Higher Secondary Education today. The student body has demanded the immediate arrest of the accused teacher and a high-level inquiry into the school administration’s alleged role in the matter.
The incident, which reportedly involves a Physics teacher from Bhavan’s Tripura Vidyamandir and a Class XII student, has sent shockwaves across the academic community in Agartala.
Serious Allegations of Misconduct
According to the SFI leadership, the accused teacher—identified in several reports as Chandrajit Das (or Chandrajit Roy)—is alleged to have exploited his position of trust to commit heinous acts against a minor student.
Key Allegations Raised by SFI:
- Sexual Exploitation: The student was reportedly subjected to repeated abuse at the teacher’s rented residence near the Narsingarh area.
- Intimidation: It is alleged that the teacher coerced the victim into silence for months by threatening her academic future.
- Administrative Failure: SFI leaders alleged that the school authority, instead of taking immediate legal action, allowed the teacher to “resign” and provided him with a window to escape the law.
“Educational Institutions Must Be Safe”: SFI State Unit
Speaking to reporters after the deputation, the SFI leaders emphasized that the safety of students is non-negotiable and that any attempt to “hush up” the matter by the school management must be dealt with strictly.
”A teacher’s role is to protect and guide, but here we see a predator who has shamed the entire teaching fraternity. What is more disgraceful is that the school administration allegedly tried to suppress the issue. We demand that the Education Department intervene directly, ensure the accused is caught, and cancel the affiliation of the school if they are found complicit in shielding him,” an SFI State Representative stated.
Core Demands in the Deputation
The SFI delegation presented a list of four major demands to the Director of Higher Secondary Education:
- Immediate Legal Action: Coordinating with the Airport Police Station to arrest the fugitive teacher without delay.
- Safety Audit: Conducting a comprehensive safety and surveillance audit of all private schools in the city.
- Protection of the Victim: Ensuring the victim’s identity is protected and providing her with necessary counseling and academic support.
- Inquiry into School Authority: Investigating the Principal and the School Managing Committee for their failure to report the matter to the police immediately.
Reaction from the School Authority
Earlier, the Principal of Bhavan’s Tripura Vidyamandir had issued a clarification stating that the teacher had resigned for “personal reasons” on April 29 and that the school had communicated with the child’s parents as soon as the rumors surfaced. However, the explanation has failed to satisfy student organizations, with both ABVP and SFI launching separate protests over the last 48 hours.
The Education Director has reportedly assured the SFI delegation that a report has been sought from the school and that the department will cooperate fully with the ongoing police investigation under the POCSO Act.
