AGARTALA | June 15, 2026: In a major push to protect agricultural lands and promote sustainable farming practices, a specialized convention under the banner of ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ (Save the Farmlands Campaign) was successfully organized today. The initiative, spearheaded by the Dukli Agri-organization, was held at the Priyalal Smriti Bhavan located in the Pratapgarh area of Agartala.
The high-profile agricultural awareness program was formally inaugurated by the State Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, who attended as the chief guest.
Focus on Modernization, Crop Security, and Soil Health
The convention brought together progressive farmers, agricultural policymakers, and eminent scientists on a unified platform to address contemporary challenges facing the state’s agrarian economy, including soil degradation, erratic weather patterns, and the conversion of agricultural lands.
Sharing the stage with the Agriculture Minister were several prominent dignitaries, including the Deputy Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Monika Das Dutta; renowned agricultural scientist Dr. Ganesh Das; and the Deputy Director of the state Agriculture Department, Sanjib Debbarma, among other departmental experts.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Ratan Lal Nath highlighted the government’s uncompromised focus on increasing farmers’ income through scientific interventions and biological pest management systems.
”Our farmlands are our lifeline. Through the ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’, we aim to educate our farming community about crop rotation, optimal organic fertilizer usage, and modern technology. Our department is committed to providing uninterrupted irrigation and high-yielding seed varieties so that farming remains a highly profitable and sustainable livelihood in Tripura,” Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath stated during his address.
Interactive Technical Sessions Empower Local Farmers
Following the inaugural session, an interactive technical workshop was conducted where Dr. Ganesh Das and Deputy Director Sanjib Debbarma addressed the direct queries of the attending farmers.
- Scientific Training: Experts provided vital inputs on implementing eco-friendly farming practices and utilizing government subsidies effectively to secure crop fields against seasonal diseases.
- Urban-Rural Synergy: AMC Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta emphasized the importance of maintaining green zones and protecting peri-urban agricultural tracts around the capital city from unorganized infrastructure expansion.
The Dukli Agri-organization concluded the day’s proceedings by distributing high-quality saplings and bio-fertilizer kits to several participating farmers, promising to extend similar awareness sub-camps across other rural blocks in the West Tripura district.
