AGARTALA | June 16, 2026: To mark the death anniversary of the iconic nationalist leader and freedom fighter, Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, a solemn joint memorial program was organized today at the Orient Choumuhani intersection in Agartala.
The commemorative event was spearheaded by three prominent left-wing student and youth organizations: the All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO), the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO), and the All India Mahila Sanskritik Sang संगठन (AIMSS).
Remembering the Legacy of ‘Friend of the Nation’
The program commenced with organizational leaders, student activists, and local citizens paying floral tributes before a portrait of Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das. Speakers at the gathering recalled his historic contributions to the Indian independence movement, his uncompromised legal defense of freedom fighters, and his visionary leadership as the first elected Mayor of Calcutta.
Representatives from AIDYO, AIDSO, and AIMSS emphasized that in today’s socio-political climate, the youth must look to the selflessness and patriotism of leaders like Deshbandhu to safeguard secularism and democratic principles.
”Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das dedicated his entire life and wealth to the service of the nation and the liberation struggle. His ideal of communal harmony and his spirit of sacrifice remain our guiding light. At a time when democratic institutions face challenges, our student and youth wings must unite to carry forward his unfulfilled struggle for absolute social and economic equality,” frontline youth representatives stated during the assembly.
Call for Value-Based Student Activism
The roadside memorial meeting concluded with patriotic choruses and an oath-taking session, where participating students pledged to stand against corruption, institutional commercialization of education, and social injustices.
Senior state committee members of the practicing organizations were present to coordinate the smooth conduct of the morning memorial, which drew considerable appreciation from passing pedestrians and shopkeepers in the downtown commercial sector.
