AGARTALA: As part of the ongoing urban transformation under the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), the foundation stone for a brand-new community park was laid today in Ward No. 25. The Bhumi Pujan and foundation-laying ceremony were performed by Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Rajib Bhattacharjee and AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, signaling a significant boost to the locality’s civic amenities.
Focus on Green Spaces and “Smart” Living
The project is part of a larger initiative to utilize vacant government spaces for public welfare, specifically focusing on providing open, green areas for children and senior citizens.
Speaking at the ceremony, MP Rajib Bhattacharjee highlighted that the “Double-Engine” government is committed to making Agartala one of the most livable cities in the Northeast.
“Development is not just about roads and drains; it is about the quality of life. This park in Ward 25 will serve as a lungs for the neighborhood, providing a space for health, recreation, and community bonding,” the MP stated.
Project Highlights:
- Modern Amenities: The proposed park will feature paved walking trails, a dedicated play zone for children with modern equipment, and shaded seating areas for the elderly.
- Beautification: The plan includes extensive landscaping with native trees and energy-efficient LED lighting to ensure safety during evening hours.
- Timeline: Mayor Dipak Majumder assured the residents that the construction would be fast-tracked to ensure the park is ready for public use within the current calendar year.
Mayor’s Vision for Ward-Wise Development
Mayor Dipak Majumder noted that Ward No. 25 is a key residential hub, and the demand for a dedicated park had been a long-standing request from the locals.
“Our corporators are working at the grassroots to identify the needs of every ward. Whether it is drinking water through the Mukhyamantri Nagar Unnayan Prakalpa or recreational parks, we are ensuring that the AMC’s budget is spent effectively for the people,” the Mayor added.
Community Enthusiasm
The event was attended by local Corporator Sima Debnath, senior BJP karyakartas, and a large number of local residents who welcomed the move. The Bhumi Pujan was conducted with traditional rituals, followed by a brief interaction where leaders listened to other civic grievances of the ward.
The residents expressed their gratitude, noting that the new park would prevent the illegal encroachment of the vacant land and provide a safe environment for local children who currently lack a proper playground.
