AGARTALA: Raising key issues concerning student welfare and academic infrastructure, activists of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) organized a massive rally from the Tripura Pradesh Congress Bhawan in Agartala on Thursday.
Dozens of student activists gathered outside Congress Bhawan carrying banners and shouting anti-government slogans before marching through the main thoroughfares of the capital city. The demonstration was staged to press for the immediate fulfillment of a 4-point charter of demands directly affecting students across Tripura.
Core Demands Raised by NSUI
- Academic Rights & Reform: Urgent addressing of student-centric academic grievances and structural improvements in state educational institutions.
- Fair Examination & Evaluation: Streamlining the evaluation process and ensuring transparency in university and board examinations.
- Affordable Education: Measures to curb escalating fees in higher education institutes and timely distribution of student stipends and scholarships.
- Campus Infrastructure: Immediate recruitment to fill vacant teaching faculty positions and repair of basic infrastructure across state schools and colleges.
Addressing media personnel during the march, NSUI leaders warned that if the state education department fails to take concrete action on their 4-point demand list, the student organization will launch a wider state-wide agitation in the coming weeks. Security forces were deployed along the rally route to ensure public order.
