A wave of public indignation erupted today as the Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress submitted a formal deputation to the state Health Department, protesting the alleged inhumane treatment meted out to a patient from Dharmanagar at Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital in Agartala.
The incident reportedly took place when the patient, traveling all the way from Dharmanagar for specialized medical care, faced severe mistreatment and administrative apathy from hospital staff. Condemning the act in strong terms, Youth Congress leaders demanded an immediate inquiry into the incident and strict disciplinary action against the personnel involved. They warned health authorities that recurring instances of medical negligence and misconduct against rural patients at the state’s premier referral hospital will trigger widespread protests across Tripura.
