AGARTALA | AUGUST 24, 2026: Elevating their long-standing agitation, the TET Teachers’ Welfare Association, Tripura submitted a formal memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha through the Director of School Education.
The association is demanding the immediate implementation of regular pay scales for TET-qualified teachers from their initial date of joining, alongside the withdrawal of the Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the state government in the Supreme Court of India.
Core Demands Submitted in the Memorandum
- Regular Pay Scale from Day One: The association urged the state government to eliminate the mandatory fixed-pay probationary period for TET-passed teachers, demanding full regular pay scales and associated allowances effective from their first day of service.
- Withdrawal of Supreme Court SLP: Teachers expressed strong resentment over the state government’s decision to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court regarding teacher service conditions and pay structures. The memorandum called for an immediate withdrawal of the SLP to clear legal hurdles for the teaching fraternity.
- Financial Parity and Pay Regularization: Demonstrators highlighted that despite qualifying through the rigorous Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and fulfilling all NCTE norms, educators are being deprived of full financial benefits, causing severe economic strain.

Speaking to reporters after submitting the memorandum at the Directorate of School Education in Agartala, representatives of the TET Teachers’ Welfare Association emphasized the urgency of their demands:
“TET-qualified teachers have fulfilled every merit criterion established under national guidelines. Depriving us of regular pay scales from the first day of joining is unjust. We urge the Chief Minister to intervene, withdraw the SLP currently pending in the Supreme Court, and ensure that teachers receive their legitimate pay rights without further legal delays.”
