AGARTALA | June 28, 2026: Maintaining intense political pressure on the state administration regarding public infrastructure safety, a high-level delegation of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), led by State Party President Shri Asish Kumar Saha, today visited the grief-stricken residence of the late Subhrajit Chowdhury.
The senior leadership spent considerable time comforting the victim’s traumatized wife, mother, and immediate family members, extending deep structural solidarity on behalf of the Indian National Congress.
Congress Core Committee Slams Delay in Legal Actions
Subhrajit Chowdhury tragically succumbed to severe blast-induced trauma and intensive burn injuries at the AGMC & GBP Hospital on Friday, following a massive gas leak explosion inside a residential high-rise at Ramnagar Road No. 4.
Speaking to the family and local residents outside the house, TPCC President Asish Kumar Saha sharply criticized the sluggish pace of regulatory accountability, arguing that basic safety audits are being compromised across urban Agartala.
”The premature loss of Subhrajit Chowdhury is a catastrophic event caused purely by corporate and administrative failure. We have met his grieving mother and wife today to assure them that Congress will fight for them from the streets to the legal courts. The ruling dispensation cannot get away by simply giving verbal assurances or blaming utility units on paper. We demand that the state government immediately sanction a government job for the victim’s wife and clear a comprehensive ex-gratia compensation package of at least ₹50 Lakhs,” TPCC President Asish Kumar Saha asserted to media personnel.
Key Demands Lodged by the TPCC Delegation
Following the condolence visit, the Pradesh Congress leadership outlined their immediate line of action to force structural accountability:
- Fast-Tracked Criminal Case: Demanding the immediate filing of formal criminal cases against the top supervisory engineers of the gas distribution corporation for operational oversight.
- Permanent Safety Audits: Pressuring the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) to suspend the trade licenses of high-density commercial setups operating in residential complexes until they clear certified pipeline safety checks.
- Unified Agitation Block: Planning a localized protest rally across the Ramnagar assembly sector to demand strict enforcement of consumer protection rights and civic hazard controls.
The delegation accompanying the state president included senior frontal wing chiefs, Mahila Congress executives, and district block coordinators, who jointly affirmed that the party’s legal cell will offer free structural council to the family to pursue judicial interventions.
