The Tripura Left Front State Committee launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led state government on October 27, accusing it of overseeing a “complete breakdown of law and order” and failing to address the issue of rising unemployment. The committee announced plans for a statewide movement to protest what they called the government’s “total failure on all fronts.”
In a statement released after their meeting, the Left Front alleged that incidents of violence against women, murders, and rapes have become alarmingly frequent, highlighting the administration’s inability to protect its citizens. They also expressed concern over the state’s increasing involvement in the drug trade, pointing to a recent seizure of narcotics at Jirania railway station as evidence.
The committee went on to claim that ruling party leaders are suspected of being complicit in the illegal drug trade “from top to bottom,” working in collaboration with officials. They criticized the government for conducting superficial investigations that fail to hold the real perpetrators accountable, calling for an independent probe by skilled officers.
The Left Front warned of serious social consequences if the current issues of drug trafficking, corruption, and unemployment are not addressed promptly, stating that these problems could have a devastating impact on the youth and future generations of the state. They accused the present regime of allowing corruption to reach an “all-out form.”
The committee also highlighted the dire job situation in Tripura, noting that many unemployed youths are being forced to migrate to other states in search of work. They recounted a tragic incident in Gandachara where a poverty-stricken couple reportedly sold their newborn baby for a meager sum, emphasizing the urgent need for employment generation to prevent such desperate measures.
Additionally, the Left Front condemned the recent violent incidents in Shantir Bazar, where vehicles, shops, and houses were vandalized and looted during a bandh allegedly organized by the “Citizen Forum” with the support of Tipra Motha. They criticized the bandh as a deliberate attempt to disrupt peace and unity among communities, stating that several individuals, including a police officer and an engineer, were injured and are currently receiving treatment at GB Hospital.
Accusing both Tipra Motha and the BJP of engaging in communal politics to deflect attention from the state’s pressing issues, the committee announced plans to launch a statewide agitation to protest the government’s failures. The meeting was attended by Left Front Convener Manik Dey, CPI(M) Central Committee member Naresh Jamatia, CPI State Council Secretary Milan Baidya, RSP’s Deepak Deb, Forward Bloc Secretary Paresh Sarkar, and Ashish Bhattacharya.
