Tripura police have made significant progress in cracking down on human trafficking, with the recent arrest of five individuals suspected of being involved in two separate cases. The arrests were made in the Lankamura, Sharmalunga, and Sanmura areas of West Tripura District following a tip-off received by the Government Railway Police (GRP).
According to GRP Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das, the raids were conducted early in the morning after receiving information about the presence of human traffickers in the area. The arrests are said to be linked to ongoing investigations into cases of human trafficking in the region.
A joint operation involving the Agartala GRP Police Station, the Border Security Force (BSF), and Tripura Police led to the apprehension of the suspects. The individuals, identified as Sumon Das alias Bikash (39), Rahul Das (27), Bishwajit Das (49), Anibesh Sarkar (31), and Jewel Sarkar (26), are all residents of the West Tripura district.
The suspects are currently being interrogated by a special team at the Agartala GRP Police Station, and further arrests are expected as the investigation progresses. The arrested individuals will be brought before the court later today for police remand.
This crackdown on human trafficking comes in the wake of the recent arrest of seven Bangladeshi nationals at the Agartala Railway Station. These individuals were apprehended for illegally entering Tripura with the intention of leaving the state. The authorities are continuing their efforts to combat human trafficking and ensure the safety and security of the region.
