AGARTALA: To address long-standing challenges in the state’s poultry sector and advocate for the rights of local poultry farmers, the Tripura Poultry Development Forum convened a press conference in Agartala today. During the briefing, representatives announced the formation of a brand-new state executive committee constituted for a two-year term.
The newly elected leadership outlined several pressing issues currently plaguing poultry farmers across Tripura and presented a charter of demands before the state government for immediate intervention.
Formation of New 2-Year Executive Committee
The forum announced that the newly structured committee will work dedicatedly over the next two years to streamline feed prices, organize small-scale farmers, and coordinate directly with the Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD). The executive members affirmed their commitment to building a resilient, self-sustaining poultry ecosystem in Tripura.
Key Issues & Demands Highlighted by the Forum:
Addressing media personnel, forum leaders highlighted the rising operational costs and market instability affecting local producers.
- Regulation of High Feed Prices: Expressed concern over the steep rise in poultry feed costs and requested government subsidies or price regulation to protect small-scale farmers from financial loss.
- Control Over Unregulated Outside Imports: Demanded strict monitoring and regulation on the influx of dressed chicken and eggs from neighboring states to protect local farm owners.
- Financial Assistance & Credit Facilities: Requested easy, hassle-free bank loans, low-interest micro-credits, and government insurance support against poultry diseases and seasonal losses.
- Modern Storage & Processing Facilities: Urged the government to set up cold storage units, modern processing hubs, and hygienic distribution centers across districts to ensure fair pricing.
The forum members expressed hope that the state government and concerned department will give due consideration to their charter of demands to safeguard the livelihoods of thousands of families dependent on the poultry industry in Tripura.
