AGARTALA | AUGUST 26, 2026: Condemning soaring inflation, escalating commodity prices, and the alleged harassment of transport workers, the Tripura Pradesh Unorganised Workers Congress organized a robust protest demonstration in Agartala.
The agitators targeted both central and state policies for failing to curb rising living costs while accusing traffic enforcement agencies and authorities of subjecting e-rickshaw (TomTom) and auto-rickshaw drivers to unfair fines and operational harassment.
Core Issues Raised During the Protest
- Protest Against Uncontrolled Inflation: Leaders highlighted that spiraling prices of essential commodities, cooking gas, and fuel have severely burdened daily wage earners, low-income families, and transport workers.
- Harassment of Auto & E-Rickshaw Drivers: The union strongly protested against arbitrary route restrictions, heavy spot fines, and vehicle seizures targeting battery-operated rickshaw and auto-rickshaw drivers, demanding immediate relief and clear operating guidelines.
