AGARTALA: Hitting out against steep inflation, escalating fuel tariffs, and the severe economic distress faced by informal workers, the Tripura Pradesh Unorganized Workers Congress organized a massive rally and mass sit-in demonstration (Gana-Obosthan) in the capital city on Wednesday.
Hundreds of unorganized sector workers—including ASHA workers, Mid-Day Meal staff, and DDT spray laborers—marched through key thoroughfares in Agartala carrying banners and shouting slogans against the government’s economic policies.
Key Demands & Charter of ActionThe leadership of the Pradesh Unorganized Workers Congress presented a multi-point charter of demands targeting immediate financial and employment relief:Control over Essential Commodities: Urgent government intervention to roll back hikes in CNG, PNG, domestic LPG cooking gas cylinders, electricity bills, and basic food supplies.Wage Revision & Pay Hikes: Substantial increase in honorarium and daily wages for ASHA workers, Mid-Day Meal cooks/helpers, and DDT spray workers who form the backbone of grassroots public health and education services.Regularization of Services: Immediate service regularization for long-serving contractual and scheme-based informal workers across government departments.Social Security Benefits: Implementation of comprehensive social security, provident fund, and medical safety benefits for unorganized sector laborers across Tripura.
