AGARTALA | June 19, 2026: In a major success for the state’s ongoing anti-narcotics drive, police personnel raided a residential complex in the heart of the city today and intercepted a massive consignment of illicit cough syrup.
A young housewife, identified as Sariya Reang, has been detained in connection with the seizure.
The operations unfolded at the Arundhati Apartment complex located in the Shibnagar locality of Agartala. Acting on a precise tip-off regarding a drug storage network, a police team targeted a rented flat owned by local resident Krishanu Deb.
During the search, law enforcement officers recovered a large stock of contraband pharmaceutical syrups hidden inside the premises. The flat had been rented out to an individual named Liton Debbarma, whose wife, Sariya, was present at the scene and subsequently taken into custody by the police.
Administrative officials have launched a detailed investigation to trace the sourcing channels of the contraband and check for interstate links, while legal proceedings are being initiated against the detained individual under the NDPS Act.
