AGARTALA | June 15, 2026: Tensions flared in the heart of the capital city today as members of the Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress staged a massive protest rally targeting the government over rising inflation, systemic corruption, and severe unemployment.
The demonstration turned chaotic when a major clash broke out between police personnel and youth activists at the busy RMS Choumuhani intersection, severely disrupting traffic and normal life for several hours.
Direct Confrontation at RMS Choumuhani
The agitational program, organized following a central call from the Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress leadership, saw hundreds of workers hit the streets raising slogans against both the central and state administrations.
As the protest march moved closer to key government buildings, a massive police contingent barricaded the road at RMS Choumuhani to prevent the rally from advancing further. Aggrieved protestors tried to breach the security ring, leading to a heated argument and violent physical scuffles between the youth activists and law enforcement personnel.
”We are raising our voices for the ordinary citizens who are being crushed under unbridled inflation and corporate corruption. The government is using police brute force to silence the youth of Tripura. Our movement will not stop until these arbitrary price hikes are reversed and proper jobs are created,” a senior Youth Congress leader stated at the protest site.
Key Charter of Demands Outlined by the Youth Front
During the demonstration, the Pradesh Youth Congress leadership placed a definitive four-point charter of demands before the state administration, seeking immediate intervention:
- NEET Paper Leak Probe: A high-level, independent judicial investigation into the national NEET examination paper leak scandal to safeguard the academic future of thousands of deserving students.
- Fuel Price Control: Immediate rollbacks on the soaring prices of essential fuels, including Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Piped Natural Gas (PNG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), petrol, and diesel.
- Checking Essential Commodities: Strict market regulation to curb the unbridled and unregulated price rise of daily essential grocery commodities.
- Unemployment and Job Creation: Urgent steps from the state to tackle the growing unemployment crisis by creating structured, permanent job avenues for the state’s qualified youth workforce.
The police eventually brought the situation under control by detaining several frontline leaders and dispersing the remaining protestors from the commercial zone. Additional security pickets have been deployed across key intersections in Agartala to prevent any fresh law and order breakdowns.
