The power department of Tripura, led by the Tripura State Electrical Corporation Limited (TSECL), is making strides in modernizing the state’s power service sector. Minister for power, Ratan Lal Nath, recently inaugurated a new 132 KV power sub-station in Amarpur and announced a major project worth Rs 1800 crore aimed at upgrading the power infrastructure.
One of the key initiatives of this project is the introduction of facilities that will allow maintenance staff to rectify faults in power lines, substations, and meters without interrupting the supply of electricity. This will involve the use of drones to identify and repair faults in towers, power lines, and transformers in substations without the need to disconnect power supply, even for a short period.
The government of India is providing financial support for this project, which will greatly benefit residents in areas such as Amarpur, Chelagang, Rangamati, Malbasa, Thalcherra, Debbati, Onaraibari, Kasko, Khamariabari, and surrounding regions. Additionally, the World Bank has also extended funding for power development projects in Tripura, including the modernization of existing infrastructure.
Ratan Lal Nath highlighted that out of the 10 new substations planned, nine have already been completed, with work on the remaining one currently underway. Furthermore, the 79 tilla area of Agartala is being connected to the Rookhia thermal station using new technology cables, and new tower lines are being installed from Ambassa to Gandacherra with support from the North Eastern Council (NEC).
In his address, Ratan Lal emphasized the importance of the power department staff being attentive and responsive to the grievances of the general public regarding power supply. By implementing these modernization projects and incorporating new technologies, Tripura aims to enhance its power service sector and provide better electricity services to its residents.
