AGARTALA: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today observed the 208th birth anniversary of the world-renowned philosopher, economist, and revolutionary, Karl Marx, with due solemnity and respect. The state-level commemoration was held at the CPIM State Headquarters (Melarmath) in Agartala, where party leaders and workers gathered to pay tribute to the father of modern scientific socialism.
The event took place amidst a significant political climate in the region, with leaders emphasizing the continued relevance of Marxian ideology in addressing contemporary economic challenges and labor rights.
Floral Tributes and Solemn Observance
The program commenced in the morning with the hoisting of the red flag, followed by a floral tribute ceremony. A portrait of Karl Marx was placed in the central hall of the state office, adorned with garlands.
Key Participants:
- Jitendra Chaudhury: Leader of the Opposition and CPIM State Secretary.
- Manik Sarkar: Former Chief Minister and Politburo Member.
- Senior Leaders: Members of the State Committee, representatives from the CITU (labor wing), and youth leaders from SFI and DYFI.
“The Path to Equality”: Jitendra Chaudhury’s Address
Addressing the gathering, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury highlighted that while the world has changed since the 19th century, the core struggles of the working class remain the same.
”Karl Marx provided us with the scientific tools to understand the exploitation of man by man. Today, as we see a rising gap between the wealthy few and the struggling masses in our country, his teachings on social justice and the rights of the proletariat are more vital than ever. We observe this day not just as a ritual, but as a commitment to continue our fight for the marginalized sections of Tripura,” Chaudhury stated.
Focus on Youth and Labor
The 208th anniversary celebrations also focused on engaging the younger generation. Speakers noted that in an era of digital economies and gig work, the Marxian critique of capital remains a powerful framework for analysis.
Highlights of the Commemoration:
- Ideological Discussion: A brief seminar was held where senior members discussed the impact of Marx’s “Das Kapital” on global political movements.
- Tribute to Struggles: Leaders also paid homage to the workers who have been advocating for better wages and social security in the unorganized sectors of Tripura.
- Statewide Events: Similar commemorative programs were reported from various district and departmental offices of the CPIM across all eight districts of the state.
Legacy of the “Red Star”
The atmosphere at the state office was one of quiet reflection. Leaders emphasized that Karl Marx’s legacy is not just found in books but in the democratic rights and labor laws that workers enjoy today. As the red flags fluttered outside the Melarmath office, the CPIM reaffirmed its resolve to uphold the “Red Star” of socialism as a guiding light for its political journey in the state.
