The Tripura government has taken proactive measures to ensure that the state’s residents have access to essential supplies amid the disruption caused by a damaged railway track in the Haflong–Jatinga section of Assam. The government has reassured the public that there is a sufficient stock of food and essential commodities to last for over 80 days, as well as a 10-day supply of fuel.
A senior Tripura government official stated that a review meeting was held with Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) officials to assess the situation after a landslide, triggered by road repair work by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), damaged the railway tracks. The official emphasized that there is no need for panic as the state has adequate reserves of essential items.
Currently, Tripura has a 10-day supply of fuel, enough rice for 86 days, wheat for 56 days, and an ample stock of pulses. The official also mentioned that NFR officials have estimated that it will take at least three days to restore railway connectivity, and efforts are being made to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
In response to the disruption, the Northeast Frontier Railway has cancelled four express trains from Agartala. The railway authorities have deployed heavy machinery, equipment, and manpower to clear the debris and restore the tracks. A high-level emergency meeting was held with officials from NFR, the state government, NHAI, and other concerned agencies to plan immediate action for the restoration of train services.
Continuous joint monitoring and coordinated efforts are underway to ensure the safety of the line and resume train services as soon as possible. The NFR has assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to address the situation and restore normalcy.
