State government officials in Tripura are actively seeking additional financial support from the 16th Finance Commission to address critical infrastructure needs in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). During a significant meeting held in New Delhi, Finance Minister Pranjit Singh Roy outlined a series of key demands aimed at boosting the overall development of the state and improving essential infrastructure.
Minister Roy highlighted the infrastructural challenges faced by Tripura, particularly the disruptions caused by heavy monsoon rains that affect road and rail connectivity. He stressed the urgent need for additional funds to enhance infrastructure in the TTAADC region, calling for a special grant from the Finance Commission to support comprehensive development.
In addition to infrastructure development, Minister Roy also advocated for 20% of the funds to be allocated towards forestry and ecology, underscoring the importance of environmental preservation alongside economic growth. He presented plans to support the growth of agriculture, fisheries, small and medium-sized industries, and the tourism sector in Tripura, emphasizing the need for financial assistance to overcome infrastructural challenges.
The Finance Minister also emphasized the importance of creating special grants for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council to spur overall development in the region. He proposed increased funding for the state’s fisheries sector to boost production and develop necessary infrastructure.
Furthermore, Minister Roy addressed critical issues such as drug trafficking, calling for additional police forces to be deployed along the border areas to combat cross-border smuggling. He also expressed concerns about the impact of political instability in neighboring Bangladesh on Tripura’s socio-economic development, highlighting how it has hindered the potential growth of medical tourism in the region.
Overall, the state government is actively seeking support from the Finance Commission to address key challenges and accelerate development in Tripura, emphasizing the importance of strategic investments in infrastructure and various sectors to drive sustainable growth.
