Tripura Police have made a significant arrest in the fight against drug trafficking in the region, with local musician Paritosh Sarkar being apprehended following the recovery of a large quantity of ganja from his residence in the Konaban area of Sepahijala district. The seizure of over 173 kilograms of dried ganja, valued at over Rs 10 lakh in the illegal market, marks a substantial victory for law enforcement in Tripura.
The arrest, which took place on Sunday, was the result of a tip-off received by Officer-in-Charge Debajit Chatterjee of the Madhupur police station. Acting swiftly on the information, police teams collaborated with personnel from the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and the Intelligence Department to conduct a raid on Sarkar’s residence. Despite Sarkar’s attempt to flee upon seeing the approaching officers, he was swiftly apprehended, thanks to the quick response by the authorities.
During the search operation, ganja was found concealed under a pile of sand in the courtyard of Sarkar’s house, as well as inside the residence and on a nearby hill behind the property. A total of 173.570 kilograms of ganja were seized, highlighting the seriousness of the illegal drug trade in the region.
A case has been registered against Sarkar under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with Officer-in-Charge Debajit Chatterjee confirming Sarkar’s involvement in the illicit activities. The investigation also suggests that Sarkar had ties with local youths who may be part of the illegal network, prompting further inquiries to identify and arrest others involved.
This arrest comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Tripura Police to combat drug trafficking in the region, with a focus on dismantling networks involved in the distribution of narcotics to protect the community. Authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious activities, as community assistance plays a crucial role in tackling drug-related crimes.
The case has shed light on the challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing drug trafficking and its impact on local communities in Tripura. The authorities remain steadfast in their commitment to eradicating such illegal activities, ensuring a safer environment for residents. Continued determination and cooperation from the community are essential for long-term safety and well-being.
