The Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) Motha Party made a powerful statement on August 9th as they organized a massive Homchang Rally at Astabal Ground in Agartala. The rally was held to demand the immediate conduct of the long-pending Village Council (VC) elections, which have been delayed for far too long.
Party leaders and supporters gathered at the rally, holding placards and chanting slogans in protest against the government’s delay in conducting the elections. TIPRA Motha leaders accused the state government of intentionally postponing the polls, thereby depriving Autonomous District Councils (ADC) areas of their democratic rights.
During the rally, party leaders warned that if the government did not announce the VC election schedule promptly, they would intensify their movement across the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) regions. The strong turnout at the rally, with thousands of participants from all corners of the state, showcased the significant support TIPRA Motha has garnered.
In addition to the rally, TIPRA Motha Party took to social media to further amplify their message. A Facebook post by the party stated, “Our warriors across the state carried out Homchang (Mashal/Torch) Rally in all blocks to demand the immediate conduct of Village Council (VC) elections.” The post emphasized the importance of conducting the elections promptly, highlighting that the delay was hindering development in the TTAADC areas.
The State Election Commission (SEC) was called upon to understand that a delayed election equates to denied rights for the people. The absence of Village Councils was deemed detrimental to the progress and development of the TTAADC areas, emphasizing the urgency of conducting the elections without further delay.
The Homchang Rally and the subsequent social media campaign by TIPRA Motha Party have brought the issue of the delayed VC elections to the forefront, showcasing the determination of the party to fight for the democratic rights of the people in the ADC areas. As the pressure mounts on the government to act swiftly, the future of the VC elections remains a focal point for TIPRA Motha and its supporters.
