Tripura has seen an average of 31 mandays generated for each labour card holder under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) from April to September 29 this fiscal year, according to an official statement released on Tuesday.
The Centre has approved 3.50 crore mandays for Tripura in the current financial year, with the possibility of increasing the allocation if demand rises. As of September 29, the state has already generated 1.71 crore mandays, resulting in an average of 31 mandays per job card holder.
The statement also revealed that the Centre has disbursed Rs 548.18 crore so far, with Rs 505.83 crore being directly paid to job card holders as wages.
In the previous fiscal year of 2024-25, a total of 3.53 crore mandays were allocated for Tripura, with the state managing to generate an average of 60 mandays per worker.
Former chief minister Manik Saha recently criticized the BJP-led coalition government, accusing them of failing to provide jobs to the poor before the Durga Puja festival.
These latest statistics shed light on both the advancements and challenges faced in meeting rural employment demands under MGNREGA in Tripura.
