Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, founder of Tipra Motha and a member of the royal family, expressed his disappointment on Sunday as the Supreme Court postponed the crucial hearing for holding Village Council (VC) elections. He mentioned that a new date for the hearing is expected to be announced on October 6.
In his statement, Pradyot highlighted the historical suffering of the indigenous people of Tripura, attributing it to what he described as a systematic control through “power, money, and the system.” He emphasized that certain individuals have been trying to dictate the fate of the indigenous population through various means, leading to continued hardships.
Pradyot also raised concerns about the growing frustration among the youth and Generation Z in Tripura due to the lack of autonomy and constitutional safeguards for the indigenous communities. The demands for greater recognition and protection of their rights have been ongoing, with calls for systemic changes to address their grievances.
The delay in the VC election hearing has further fueled the existing discontent and desire for meaningful reforms within Tripura. As the indigenous population continues to struggle for their rights and representation, Pradyot’s remarks serve as a reminder of the challenges faced by these communities and the urgent need for action to address their concerns.
