The District Administration of North Tripura has taken a groundbreaking step towards water conservation with the launch of the “Uttar Jal Sanchay Yatra” campaign. This initiative aims to construct 50,000 soak pits within a span of just two days, on November 3 and 4.
District Magistrate Chandni Chandran has emphasized the importance of this mission, calling it a “historic people’s movement” to ensure that every drop of rainwater is preserved for the future. She highlighted the crucial role that soak pits play in groundwater recharge, flood reduction, and improving soil health and agricultural productivity.
“These soak pits may be simple in design, but they have a significant impact on sustainable water management,” stated the DM.
To kick off the campaign, District Officials, along with the Additional District Magistrate (PP) and the Swachh Bharat Mission team, conducted a demonstration of soak pit construction at the District Magistrate’s residence. The video of this demonstration will be shared widely to encourage communities to undertake similar efforts in their homes, villages, and institutions.
“The core message of the campaign is ‘Catch the rain where it falls,’ emphasizing the importance of community involvement in water conservation,” explained Chandran.
The District Administration has called upon citizens, panchayats, schools, and organizations to actively participate in the Uttar Jal Sanchay Yatra. By coming together, they can ensure the success of this initiative and set a new standard for environmental stewardship.
