A joint operation conducted by the Border Security Force (BSF), Tripura Frontier, and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Agartala, led to the seizure of a significant quantity of Yaba tablets worth approximately Rs 16 crore in Sepahijala district late Sunday night.
Based on specific intelligence inputs, the BSF and NCB officials targeted a private residence in the bordering area of Boxanagar under the jurisdiction of Kalamchoura Police Station. The operation, which took place between 11:10 PM and 2:00 AM, focused on the house of Lipiyara Khatun (33), the wife of Amal Hussain, a resident of Madhya Boxanagar.
Upon conducting a thorough search of the premises, the joint team discovered 16 packets wrapped in brown tape hidden in the kitchen area of the house. Upon inspection, it was revealed that the packets contained approximately 16 kilograms of Yaba tablets, totaling around 1.6 lakh tablets with an estimated value of ₹16 crore in the illegal market.
Following the seizure, Lipiyara Khatun was detained for further interrogation and legal proceedings. Both the confiscated narcotics and the detained individual were handed over to the NCB Agartala for additional investigation and appropriate legal action.
Authorities suspect that the seized contraband may be linked to a larger trans-border smuggling network operating along the Indo-Bangladesh border. In response to this incident, the BSF has increased surveillance and collaboration with state and central agencies to combat the growing issue of synthetic drug smuggling in the region.
This successful operation highlights the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat the illegal drug trade and protect the community from the harmful effects of such substances. Further efforts are expected to be made to dismantle these smuggling networks and ensure the safety and security of the region.
