The Government of Bangladesh has expressed deep concern and outrage over the recent lynching of three Bangladeshi nationals in Tripura’s Khowai district. The incident occurred after the suspects were accused of attacking two Indian villagers, resulting in the death of one of them.
In response to the incident, Dhaka has urged the Government of India to conduct a prompt, impartial, and transparent investigation into the matter. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh issued a statement condemning the “brutal beating and killing” of its citizens, calling it a serious violation of human rights and the rule of law. The statement emphasized the need to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the protection of all individuals, regardless of nationality.
The violence took place in the border area of Vidyabil village in Khowai district, where the Bangladeshi nationals were allegedly attempting to steal cattle. Tripura Police reported that the suspects entered the village early in the morning and when confronted by villagers, they attacked with sharp weapons, resulting in injuries to two locals. One of the victims, Mithu Telanga, succumbed to his injuries while the other, Dhiredra Telanga, remains in critical condition at GB Pant Hospital.
In a retaliatory act, a mob of enraged villagers surrounded the alleged cattle lifters and beat them to death on the spot. The incident has sparked tension in the area, with residents expressing anger over perceived security lapses and alleged inaction by authorities.
Police have confirmed that the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination and a detailed investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Government of Bangladesh is closely monitoring the situation and expects the Government of India to take necessary measures to prevent such heinous acts from recurring in the future.
