The Border Security Force (BSF) in Tripura detained six Bangladeshi nationals, including a child, at Ambassa Railway Station in Dhalai district on Sunday. The detainees had reportedly come to Ambassa with the intention of travelling to Jalpaiguri in West Bengal in search of work, and all of them are said to be residents of Bagerhat district in Bangladesh.
Sources revealed that during preliminary interrogation, one of the detainees confessed to illegally entering Tripura about a month ago. He had previously worked at a tea garden in Bangladesh where he met someone who introduced him to a contact in Agartala. Subsequently, he and the others travelled to Agartala and were on their way to Jalpaiguri for employment when they were apprehended at Ambassa Railway Station.
The detainees claimed they did not personally know the agent based in Jalpaiguri, but their photographs had been sent to him in advance. BSF officials, in collaboration with the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Ambassa, are currently questioning the six individuals. After the interrogation process, they will be handed over to Ambassa Police Station and are expected to appear before the court on Monday.
It has been reported that all six individuals had entered the state illegally with the help of an unidentified person in exchange for money. The incident highlights the ongoing issue of illegal immigration and human trafficking in the region. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend those involved in facilitating such activities.
