Agartala: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and TYF on Monday announced a state-wide agitation programme titled “Save the Generation”, alleging growing unemployment, drug trafficking, corruption and democratic decline in Tripura under the BJP-led government.
The announcement was made at a press conference addressed by DYFI State President Palash Bhowmik, State Secretary Nabarun Deb, TYF President Kaushik Roy Debbarma, and youth leader Shantanu Deb.
Addressing the media, the youth leaders alleged that the state is witnessing widespread disorder, lack of employment opportunities, rampant drug abuse and corruption. They claimed that democracy has been “buried under mafia dominance and political terror,” accusing the ruling party of promoting “jungle raj in the name of good governance.”
The organisations placed five key demands, including immediate filling up of vacant government posts, action against corruption, steps to curb drug trafficking, restoration of cancelled jobs, and protection of democratic rights. They alleged that nearly 50,000 government posts remain vacant, unemployment is rising, posts are being abolished, and drugs are entering the state “wagon-loads.”
Criticising recruitment bodies, they alleged that the TRBT is functioning as a BJP-affiliated organisation and referred to a controversial video involving the TPSC Chairman, terming it “disturbing.”
The first programme under the “Save the Generation” campaign will be held on January 8 at Kumarghat, where Leader of the Opposition Jiten Chowdhury will address the gathering. Similar programmes will be organised in Agartala, with participation of all-India leadership of the organisations.
The campaign will run from January 8 to January 20, during which sit-in demonstrations (dharna) will be organised across the state based on the five-point charter of demands. The organisations also announced that National Youth Day on January 12 will be observed with special emphasis as part of the movement.
