Agartala, Tripura: A massive convention was held at the Muktdhara Auditorium in Agartala on Sunday, where major trade unions and farmer organizations issued a clarion call to make the upcoming Nationwide General Strike on February 12, 2026, a total success. The convention was jointly organized by a platform of central trade unions, including CITU, AITUC, UTUC, TUCC, and AICCTU, along with the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and various sectoral federations.
Addressing the gathering, Manik Dey, President of the Tripura State Committee of CITU and former State Minister, launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Central Government. He vehemently criticized the implementation of the four new Labour Codes, which he described as “draconian” and designed to turn the Indian workforce into “modern-day slaves” for the benefit of corporate giants.
Dey further highlighted that the new policies, including the Electricity (Amendment) Bill and the replacement of MGNREGA with the VB-GRAM G project, are a direct assault on the rights of laborers and farmers. “The government is systematically dismantling the legal protections won through a century of struggle,” Dey stated, urging all sections of society—including students and youth—to join the resistance against the “pro-corporate and anti-people” policies of the Modi administration.
