AGARTALA: The Tripura Rajya Upajati Ganamukti Parishad (TRUGMP), the tribal wing of the CPI(M), held a crucial press conference today to announce the commencement of its 23rd Central Conference. Addressing the media at the party headquarters, GMP leaders detailed the upcoming two-day event scheduled to take place on January 29 and 30, 2026, at the Agartala Town Hall.
Leadership Briefing and Membership Surge
The press conference was addressed by GMP President and former minister Naresh Jamatia, alongside General Secretary Radhacharan Debbarma. The leaders highlighted a significant “rejuvenation” of the organization, noting that the GMP’s membership has surged to nearly 88,000 this year—the highest since 2022.
“The massive participation of youth in our sub-divisional conferences across 23 sub-divisions proves that the indigenous people of Tripura are looking for a platform that stands for genuine development and unity. Our 23rd Central Conference will be a historic step in that direction,” President Naresh Jamatia stated.
Key Highlights of the Conference Schedule:
- Inauguration: The conference will formally open at 11:00 AM on January 29 with the hoisting of the GMP flag at Agartala Town Hall.
- Mass Rally: A grand public rally is scheduled for 12:00 PM in front of the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan.
- Star Speakers: Veteran CPI(M) Politburo member Brinda Karat and State Secretary Jitendra Choudhury are slated to be the keynote speakers at the open session.
- Delegates: Approximately 550 delegates from 796 units across the state will participate in the organizational discussions.
Charter of Demands
The GMP leadership utilized the press meet to reiterate their 11-point charter of demands, which will be the focal point of the rally. These include:
- Direct Funding to TTAADC: Demanding constitutional amendments for direct central funding to the tribal council.
- MGNREGA Revitalization: Ensuring 200 days of work with a daily wage of ₹600.
- Filling Vacant Posts: Immediate recruitment for all departmental vacancies in the state government.
- Anti-Divisive Politics: A call to resist the “sectarian and communal” politics being allegedly played by the ruling alliance and its partners.
Critique of Current Governance
General Secretary Radhacharan Debbarma launched a scathing attack on the Tipra Motha-led TTAADC and the BJP government, accusing them of institutionalizing corruption. He alleged that the common tribal people are being misled by “emotive slogans” while basic services like health, education, and drinking water in the hills remain in shambles.
The press conference concluded with an appeal to all democratic-minded people of the state to join the rally on January 29 to strengthen the voice of the indigenous communities against “misrule.”
