AGARTALA: In a beautiful display of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,” the Telangana State Sankranti Festival was celebrated with traditional grandeur at the Lok Bhavan (Raj Bhavan) in Agartala today. The event was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Governor of Tripura, Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, who hails from Telangana, bringing a slice of South Indian heritage to the heart of Tripura.
A Celebration of Harvest and Heritage
The program, organized at the Governor’s official residence, was aimed at introducing the rich cultural traditions of the Telugu-speaking people to the citizens of Tripura. The “Sankranti” festival, which marks the harvest season in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, was recreated with authentic decorations, including vibrant Muggulu (Rangoli) designs and traditional floral arrangements.
Inaugurating the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu highlighted the common thread of agriculture that binds all Indian states.
“Whether it is Poush Sankranti in Tripura or Makara Sankranti in Telangana, the spirit is the same—gratitude to nature and the Sun God for a bountiful harvest. Such celebrations at Lok Bhavan help in fostering cultural exchange and strengthening the bond between the people of the Northeast and Southern India,” the Governor remarked.
Key Highlights of the Event
- Traditional Performances: The evening featured a series of cultural performances, including Telugu folk songs and classical dance, showcasing the rhythmic beauty of Telangana’s art forms.
- Festive Delicacies: Guests were treated to traditional Sankranti delicacies such as Ariselu, Murukulu, and sesame-based sweets, which are staples of the festival in the Deccan region.
- Interactive Session: The Governor interacted with members of the Telugu community residing in Tripura, as well as local cultural enthusiasts, explaining the significance of the three-day festival (Bhogi, Sankranti, and Kanuma).
Dignitaries Present
The event was attended by high-ranking officials of the state administration, senior police officers, and invited guests from the academic and cultural sectors of Agartala. The presence of the Governor’s family members added a personal and warm touch to the festivities.
Promoting National Integration
This celebration follows the recent “At Home” reception held at Lok Bhavan on Republic Day, further establishing Raj Bhavan as a center for social and cultural inclusivity. The Governor expressed his desire to host more such regional festivals at Lok Bhavan to promote a deeper understanding of India’s diverse cultural landscape among the youth of Tripura.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks and a group photo of the performers with the Governor, marking a successful end to a day that bridged the distance between the Godavari and the Howrah rivers.
