Agartala: The capital city has been turned into a high-security fortress as the state prepares to welcome the Vice President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, for his maiden two-day official visit starting tomorrow, March 7, 2026. To ensure a glitch-free movement for the VVIP, the Tripura Police and central security agencies conducted extensive convoy trial runs and security rehearsals across Agartala today.
The Vice President is scheduled to arrive at the MBB Airport on Saturday morning, followed by a series of high-profile engagements in Agartala and Udaipur.
Security Rehearsals and Traffic Diversions
On Friday afternoon, the city witnessed a full-scale mock drill of the Vice President’s motorcade. The convoy trial covered the route from MBB Airport to the State Guest House, and further towards the venues at Hapania and Tripura University.
- Trial Run: Dozens of security vehicles, including fire tenders and ambulances, participated in the rehearsal to check timing and coordination.
- Surveillance: Drone surveillance and “Area Domination” exercises were carried out by the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and the BSF in sensitive zones.
- Public Advisory: Traffic police have issued a temporary diversion plan for March 7 and 8, particularly on the VIP Road and the Agartala-Sabroom National Highway, to facilitate the VVIP movement.
Two-Day Itinerary: Key Highlights
According to the official schedule released by the District Magistrate of West Tripura, Dr. Vishal Kumar, the Vice President’s visit is packed with spiritual and academic events.
A Moment of Pride for Tripura
DM West Tripura, Vishal Kumar, stated that all administrative preparations are finalized.
”It is a moment of immense pride for the state. We have ensured multi-tier security at the Tripura University campus and the Hapania Fairgrounds. The Vice President will also interact with women Self-Help Group (SHG) members to review their developmental exhibits,” he told reporters.
The Vice President, who assumed office in September 2025, is currently on a tour of the North-Eastern states, having visited Nagaland and Mizoram earlier this week. His visit to Tripura is expected to provide a significant boost to the academic and women-led entrepreneurial spirit of the state.
