AGARTALA | June 13, 2026: Escalating the political tension surrounding the mysterious death of 24-year-old hostel warden Manisha Das, the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee has officially rejected the state government’s order for a magisterial inquiry.
Addressing the media, senior Congress leaders called the administrative probe a calculated attempt to suppress facts. The party strictly demanded that a high-level judicial investigation be launched immediately under the direct supervision of a sitting judge of the High Court of Tripura to unearth the absolute truth.
Congress Term Magisterial Inquiry “Biased and Insufficient”
The dynamic shift comes after the state Home Department instructed the West Tripura District Magistrate to complete a magisterial probe within 15 days. However, the opposition camp has aligned with the victim’s family from Madhuban, who firmly believe Manisha was murdered inside the girls’ hostel room rather than committing suicide.
”A standard administrative or magisterial inquiry cannot deliver justice in a high-profile institution case where influential management bodies are involved. To maintain the sanctity of law and protect our daughters, the state government must hand over the investigation dossier to a sitting High Court Judge. We will not allow this tragic incident to be covered up under the pressure of influential private entity owners,” a senior Pradesh Congress spokesperson stated.
Pradesh Mahila Congress to Launch Statewide Agitation from June 15
The political ripples of the incident are set to hit the streets across the state next week. The Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress (the women’s wing of the party) announced that it is formulating a massive, multi-phased protest roadmap.
The Mahila Congress leadership warned the home department that if their judicial probe demand is ignored, they will launch aggressive statewide agitations starting June 15. The scheduled protest programs will include blocking major highways, organizing massive gherao programs outside police headquarters, and holding black-ribbon demonstrations across all sub-divisions until a free, transparent, and fair judicial investigation is officially sanctioned by the Chief Minister’s office.
