AGARTALA: International Women’s Day was celebrated across Tripura today with immense enthusiasm and fervor by various political parties and social organizations. Marking the global occasion, the Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress organized a high-profile discussion and felicitation ceremony at the Congress Bhavan in Agartala.
The event was presided over by the President of Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress, Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty, alongside several prominent women leaders of the party.
Felicitation of Grassroots Workers
In a gesture to honor those who work at the frontlines, the Mahila Congress leadership felicitated several dedicated women workers. These activists, who have been instrumental in raising awareness about women’s rights in rural and urban pockets of Tripura, were awarded for their tireless service to the organization and society.
A Call for Unity: “Rights and Dignity Above Politics”
Addressing the gathering, Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty issued a stirring appeal to the women of the state. She emphasized that the fight for dignity and security transcends political affiliations.
”Today, on International Women’s Day, I urge every woman in Tripura—regardless of their political ideology—to unite. Our rights and our ‘Izzat’ (dignity) are under threat. Only an organized and collective voice can ensure the protection of our constitutional status,” she stated during the discussion.
Concerns Over Rising Crimes in Tripura
The Mahila Congress President did not mince words when addressing the current state of law and order. She expressed deep concern over the rising graph of crimes against women in Tripura.
- Failure of Justice: She alleged that while crimes are increasing, the conviction rate remains abysmal.
- Protection of Offenders: Chakraborty raised her voice against what she termed the “political shielding” of criminals, demanding that the state government ensure exemplary punishment for those involved in heinous acts against women.
- Security Infrastructure: The discussion also touched upon the need for better policing and safer public spaces for women across the state.
Vision for the Future
The program concluded with a pledge by the TPMC members to intensify their “Nari Nyay” (Justice for Women) campaign. The leadership vowed to take these issues to every household in Tripura, making women’s safety a central pillar of their political agenda.
