AGARTALA | June 12, 2026: In a major humanitarian and historic policy decision, the Tripura state government has announced the permanent allocation of government jobs to next of kin of individuals who lost their lives to brutal political and election-related violence in the state.
Addressing a press conference at the Civil Secretariat (Mahakaran) on Friday, Parliamentary Affairs and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath declared that the administration is actively executing a special welfare scheme to offer institutional employment to affected families, cutting across decades of political boundaries.
Elimination of Cut-Off Date Ensures Universal Support
Detailing the legal structure of the initiative, Minister Ratan Lal Nath explained that the state government has removed previous historical constraints to ensure that no grieving family is left behind due to technicalities.
”Our government notified the ‘Scheme for Providing Employment to Members of Family of Persons Killed in Political Violence’ with a clear vision to support devastated families. Initially, the framework had a strict cut-off date of March 9, 2018. However, our state cabinet later amended this provision, completely abolishing the cut-off boundary. We will now process valid applications from families of victims killed in political clashes, irrespective of the year the tragedy occurred or which political party was in power at the time,” Minister Ratan Lal Nath stated.
Rigorous Screening Framework Setup to Vet Applications
To maintain absolute transparency and prevent fraud, the Minister highlighted that a high-level Scrutiny Committee—chaired by Nath himself—personally examines every individual claim. The dedicated panel comprises top-ranking representatives from the Law Department, Home Department, Information and Cultural Affairs Department, and senior officials from the Tripura Police.
Strict Scrutiny Process Based on Field Verifications
The Minister emphasized that the primary criterion for selection relies entirely on meticulous field verification. Once an application is submitted through the respective Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) offices, comprehensive background checks are conducted by the local police networks and local administrations to confirm that the death was a direct consequence of political unrest, while also evaluating the current financial condition of the surviving family members.
Minister Ratan Lal Nath concluded the press interaction by reiterating that this scheme stands as a testament to the current government’s democratic values, aiming to repair the structural and emotional damage inflicted upon innocent citizens by decades of past electoral friction.
