AGARTALA | June 16, 2026: To extend solidarity and demand an uncompromised probe into the suspicious death of 22-year-old hostel warden Manisha Das, a high-level delegation of the Tripura Tapasili Jati Samanway Samiti (Tripura Scheduled Caste Co-ordination Committee) visited the victim’s ancestral home at Madhuban today.
The delegation met with the grieving family members to offer their deepest condolences and to assure them of full socio-political support in their ongoing fight for justice.
Community Front Demands Safety for SC/ST Working Women
The death of Manisha Das, whose body was discovered inside the girls’ hostel room of the private Tripura Santiniketan Medical College last week, has triggered massive public outrage across the state. Given that the victim belonged to the Scheduled Caste community, the Tapasili Jati Samanway Samiti has taken a serious view of the incident, alleging administrative negligence and a potential institutional cover-up by the college management.
During the visit, the leadership spent time with Manisha’s parents, listening to their grievances regarding the initial police handling of the case.
”A young, bright woman from the Scheduled Caste community has lost her life under highly mysterious circumstances at her workplace. The initial response from the institution and local authorities has been deeply disappointing. We stand firmly with the bereaved family. We will not allow this case to be brushed under the carpet to protect influential private entities. Absolute accountability must be fixed,” a senior member of the coordination committee stated after the visit.
Call for a Transparent, Time-Bound Investigation
Following the interaction, the Tripura Tapasili Jati Samanway Samiti leadership announced that they would submit a formal memorandum to the state government and senior police authorities.
The committee is demanding a time-bound, transparent investigation into the case, emphasizing that the safety of working women—particularly those from marginalized backgrounds—must be guaranteed in all private and public institutions across Tripura. They warned of widespread democratic agitations across the state if the investigation encounters any administrative delays or bias.
