AGARTALA | June 19, 2026: In a powerful display of protest against the rising incidents of violence against women in the state, the Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress (TPMC) organized a massive rally in the capital today. The demonstration focused on the urgent demand for a fair investigation into the suspicious death of Manisha Das and the overall guarantee of women’s safety across Tripura.
Led by TPMC President Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty, hundreds of women party activists marched through the city streets, raising slogans against administrative apathy and demanding stricter enforcement of law and order.
Demand for Accountability in Manisha Das Case
The rally culminated at the Police Headquarters, where a delegation led by Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty submitted a formal deputation to the Director General of Police (DGP). The memorandum highlights the frustration of the women’s wing regarding the slow pace of the ongoing probe into the death of Manisha Das, a hostel warden whose life was lost under mysterious circumstances at the private medical college.
Addressing the media after the meeting with the DGP, Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty emphasized that the party would not remain silent while the safety of the state’s daughters continues to be compromised.
”Our protest today is a warning to the administration. The death of Manisha Das is not just an isolated tragedy; it is a symbol of the failing safety architecture for women in Tripura. We have demanded that the DGP personally oversee a time-bound, transparent investigation and ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice immediately. We will continue our struggle on the streets until the culprits are behind bars,” the Mahila Congress President asserted.
Call for Statewide Safety Protocols
The deputation submitted to the police high command specifically demands:
- Expedited Justice: A high-level, impartial probe into the Manisha Das incident to uncover the truth behind her death.
- Safety Audit: Implementation of immediate safety audits for all girls’ hostels and private institutions housing working women in the state.
- Action Against Negligence: Accountability for institutional management found guilty of ignoring safety complaints or obstructing investigations.
The Mahila Congress leadership has warned that if these demands are not met promptly, they will escalate the agitation into a massive, state-wide movement involving civil society organizations and women’s rights groups.
