The city of Agartala is abuzz with preparations for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, with a record number of more than 230 pujas expected to take place across the city. West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar made the announcement during a preparatory meeting held at Agartala Town Hall on Thursday.
The meeting, chaired by Dr. Kumar along with West District Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, Traffic SP Kanta Jangir, and other senior police and civil administration officials, was attended by representatives of puja organising committees, decorators, and sound system providers.
Dr. Kumar highlighted that out of the total pujas, 230 would be large pandal pujas while the rest would be smaller celebrations. The main focus of the meeting was to ensure that the festival is conducted in a peaceful and organised manner. Dr. Kumar stated, “We are here to listen to the grievances of puja committees and address issues related to pandal construction, use of sound systems, and other logistical matters. The goal is to make sure people do not face any inconvenience during the festivities.”
In addition, Dr. Kumar mentioned that traffic management would be a key focus this year, especially with ongoing construction works in various areas of the city. Plans for diversions and routes will be made in advance and communicated to the public before the festival commences.
SP (West) Namit Pathak also emphasized the importance of coordination between multiple departments and puja committees to ensure smooth celebrations without any law-and-order issues. “Proper coordination between police, administration, and puja organisers will be the key to a successful Durga Puja celebration,” he stated.
Durga Puja is considered the biggest cultural and religious festival in Tripura, drawing large crowds every year in Agartala. The city is renowned for its artistic pandals and vibrant celebrations during this time. With a significant increase in the number of pujas scheduled this year, authorities are focusing on both security measures and crowd management to ensure a hassle-free and enjoyable festive season for all.
