AGARTALA | June 30, 2026: Conducting a hands-on field audit to address civic vulnerabilities during the peak monsoon season, the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Shri Dipak Majumder, today led an extensive inspection drive slicing through the heart of the capital’s commercial zone. The inspection team began its foot-march from the busy Post Office Chowmuhani intersection and concluded at Netaji Chowmuhani.
The high-level administrative walk was organized to evaluate the real-time operational efficiency of urban drainage networks, structural encroachments, and ongoing road repairs.
Prioritizing Monsoon Preparedness and Desiltation Quality
Accompanying the Mayor on the route was Mayor-in-Council (MIC) member Smt. Ratna Datta, along with senior borough engineers and civic sanitation supervisors. Walking through the primary commercial stretches, Mayor Dipak Majumder stopped at multiple junctions to examine the clearing of arterial storm-water drains.
He gave strict on-the-spot instructions to corporate supervisors to ensure that desilted waste is immediately cleared from the roadsides rather than being left to wash back into the channels during heavy downpours.
”Our field inspection today from Post Office Chowmuhani to Netaji Chowmuhani is part of AMC’s ongoing campaign to minimize seasonal waterlogging in high-traffic urban sectors. This stretch handles massive commercial footfall daily, and any blockage in the underground drainage line triggers immediate distress for local shopkeepers and commuters. We have identified specific choke points today. The engineering wing has been given a clear mandate to complete micro-channel repairs within forty-eight hours. The AMC is working continuously to maintain smooth public utility services across all municipal wards,” Mayor Dipak Majumder stated during his press interaction on the field.
Core Directives Issued by the Mayoral Delegation
To streamline civic operations along the inspected route, the Mayoral council finalized the following strategic protocols:
- Immediate Debris Evacuation: Ordering sanitation teams to deploy dumpers to instantly cart away muck extracted from deep manholes, keeping pedestrian walkways clear.
- Checking Plastic Encroachments: Directing borough inspectors to monitor commercial establishments and fine vendors found dumping single-use plastics or commercial waste into open municipal drains.
- Road Flank Leveling: Instructing the public works wing of the AMC to repair and level worn-out road flanks near Netaji Chowmuhani to prevent traffic bottlenecks during peak office hours.
The inspection concluded with the Mayor directing ward councilors to establish localized emergency responsive cells to quickly pump out water from low-lying lanes during sudden heavy rain spells.
