AGARTALA | June 30, 2026: In a deeply unsettling incident that has sent shockwaves through the local community, a mother allegedly collaborated with her husband to sell her own infant daughter to an inter-state buyer from Assam. The child was successfully rescued on Tuesday morning following a swift, coordinated emergency operation by the Amtali Police and the West Tripura District Child Protection Unit.
The incident unfolded in the Kanchanmala Muslim Para area under the jurisdiction of the Amtali Police Station, drawing severe condemnation from child welfare activists and local residents alike.
Desperation and Extreme Poverty Lead to Illegal Deal
According to local reports, the father, identified as Sajahan Miah (alias Saju Miah), works as a daily wage laborer and is known in the locality as a simple man. The family, which includes three young daughters, has been battling extreme poverty and financial deprivation for a prolonged period.
