AGARTALA: In a major push toward community-led urban cleanliness, an extended preparatory meeting and awareness session was held at the Agartala Shyamaprasad Town Hall on Sunday. The meeting, organized in the presence of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder, witnessed the official briefing and detailed discussion regarding the newly introduced “Mukhyamantri Swachhta Puraskar” (Chief Minister’s Cleanliness Award).
Representatives, executive members, and presidents from almost all major social and cultural clubs operating across the capital city actively participated in the interactive workshop.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Dipak Majumder emphasized that urban development and public hygiene cannot be achieved by administrative machinery alone. He stated that social clubs play an indispensable role in influencing local communities, making them vital partners in the execution of the state government’s flagship cleanliness drive.
Key Highlights of the Discussion:
- The Competition Roadmap: Detailed guidelines, criteria, and evaluation frameworks for the “Mukhyamantri Swachhta Puraskar” were formally laid out before the club authorities.
- Role of Local Clubs: The municipal authorities urged all Agartala clubs to take proactive initiatives in keeping their respective club premises, adjacent wards, and community spaces waste-free.
- Focus on Source Segregation: Clubs were requested to spearhead awareness campaigns regarding household waste segregation (wet and dry waste) and the elimination of single-use plastics.
The Mayor further announced that clubs showing exemplary performance in maintaining eco-friendly environments, modern waste management practices, and local hygiene would be formally recognized and rewarded under this state initiative. Senior AMC officials, ward councilors, and distinguished civic leaders also attended the session, pledging to transform Agartala into one of the cleanest capital cities in the region through robust public-private-community partnerships.
